A problem that needs to be solved is government assistance. I've heard some acquaintances who purposely want kids, just want their own place and need help with paying for groceries, or even people who seek social security and say they have a mental problem when they really don't and just want government to cover their lives while everyone else goes to college and has to utilize every penny they got and contribute them part of their taxes to these types of people who personally don't need assistance. I feel as if we need to reinforce these rules so not more than half of our community utilizes these needs. My answer towards, "you don't think you could ever really do anything about it?" is no because I wouldn't know where to start and grasp everyones attention about this subject.
Explain: There were a few quotes that I've easily connected with Pollan's thoughts. One of them said, "There are so many stories we can tell ourselves to justify doing nothing, but perhaps the most insidious is that, whatever we do manage to do, it will be a little too late." Its hard to manage and justify something is going to happen right when it does but once it has approached you start thinking about how to accommodate the aspect but it is already too late and nothing we could do coming across some situations. Another quote I agreed with Pollan was, "for us to wait for legislation or technology to solve the problem of how we're living our lives suggests we're not really serious about changing--something our politicians cannot fail to notice. They will not move until we do. Indeed, to look to leaders and experts, to laws and money and grand schemes, to save us from our predicament represents precisely the sort of thinking--passive, delegated, dependent for solutions on specialists--that helped get us into this mess in the first place. This goes towards the question I answered for the first question from my imaginary companion. If I were to make the first move, possibly the higher classes of government will see how much it impacts our community.
Evaluate:
"Believing game"
Berry - the "cheap energy mind," is the mind that asks, "why bother?" because it is helpless to imagine-much-less attempt--different sort of life, one less divided, less reliant.
Pollen - Those who did change the way they live would acquire the moral standing to demand changes in behavior from others--from other people, other corporations, even other countries.
"Doubting game"
Berry - "We can no longer imagine anyone but an expert, or anything but a new technology or law, solving our problems."
Pollen - "What good is that virtue itself is quickly becoming a term of decision?"
Reflect:
Problem: Utilizing government assistance.
What should be done?
I think that that these regulations for whoever applies for government assistance should be reinforced. Especially for young-adults who purposely start their lives out early with becoming pregnant at an early age, get married and finding a living shouldn't be eligible to these opportunities and be more granted to the people who are permanently encountering disability or single parents raising children and such. I run into so many types of scenarios where people try convincing me to apply for food stamps so I can spend my own money on something better. Or another scenario is where my friend's best friend is throwing a over $10,000 wedding and is trying to conceive second child but they are living in a government assistance housing? So its like if you have the money for something else why not utilize that for priorities instead of having everyone else's taxes raised up which is unfair for the people who are working their bums off on the daily to move them through life and having to contribute a bit of our money to help these people who personally don't NEED government assistance which is extremely pathetic. If the more people who go in and take advantage of that opportunity the higher our taxes will be raised up. The government already has enough to worry about utilizing their money on with better quality things. By reinforcing these government assistance policies, I think their needs to a counselor involved that could accommodated and get thorough information of their background and such. Test and value you it if these individuals really does have a disability or a serious mental disorder through a physician. Last is individuals who only have a single income that has children to take care of.
