The Famous Mayo Clinic Hospital
A few years ago was the first time I’ve ever heard about the Mayo Clinic Hospital. Walking past the Mayo Clinic Hospital was part of the tour when I was learning more about the University of Rochester for attending school there. The structure of this hospital set me with an impression of how valuable and comfortable it eludes for any patient’s stay during their tragic time in life. I’ve also learned there are many programs held at the Mayo Clinic Hospital where individuals can grow their education knowledge based materials from. Another thing about the hospital is that it has been recognized for outstanding physicians that are well trusted and educated to demonstrate through various fatal accounted procedures that morally has been completed successfully. In addition, About the Mayo Clinic has indicated, “U.S News & World Report ranked Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minn. is known to be the best hospital in the nation in their 2016-2017 rankings. This hospital has also won leadership awards and Magnet Recognition awards for the quality of patient care, nursing excellence, and innovative in professional nursing practice.” The Mayo Clinic Hospital truly fits the quality of my standards with a welcoming spirit of where I would choose to pursue my career.
There were many things I remembered that our tour-guide had empathized about the Mayo Clinic Hospital. This hospital obtains a huge campus involved with many different buildings and departments all attached in one. It almost didn’t feel like a hospital to me during my tour. The Mayo Clinic Hospital felt as if I was walking around a huge professional hotel deal that I hardly felt that I was even in a hospital. All the employees had such great hospitality with welcoming you and assisting with the direction you needed to go. There are excessive amounts of chairs laying around the building everywhere you turn so no one has to be worried about being on their feet at all times. On the main level there was a resource center that talks all about different types of cancer and preventions that anyone is welcome to be a part of. There is a place on the lower level that contains tall glass windows that views out the beautiful outside scenery. Also, a piano that is open for anyone to play to lighten up the mood in the facility. There is an international center in the building for people who doesn't have English as their first language and who will help guide you to visit at the facility. One last thing that is common at the Mayo is that during your appointments you will receive a pager that will keep with you at all times. This will go off when the clinical assistant is ready to take you and verify who you are privately, instead of trying to identify you by yelling across the big room with your name being said. Another time when your pager will go off is when the scheduler will confirm for your next appointments and to meet back up at the front desk of the department to receive your paper work. There are so many more interesting sites of building that are very unique as well that you wouldn’t see in typical hospital settings. This feeling in this hospital helps establishes your trusted and comfort need of when you arrive.
There are more than 3,300 physicians scientists and researchers from Mayo Clinic that would like to share their expertise to empower all patients for their given service. Every physician listed on Mayo Clinic website has an overview listed in with their specialized department. This overview includes their biographical history, types of educations they went through, conditions that they have treated, awards nominated, along with years of experience. Another intriguing thing that is included about each physician displays regards to themselves initiated in some news articles that tries to convey the community of a significant action taken that was collaborated with a certain physician. A physician I have came across is named, Robert D. Brown. He is a neurologist that specializes in stroke and cerebrovascular disease. Robert has treated carotid artery disease, stroke, brain aneurysm, and many more. He has received his degree in 1994 from the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. The last news reported that Robert was in, indicated a rundown of stroke symptoms that be beneficial for our society to be aware of these signs and seek medical attention (Robert D. Brown). This organizational research helps individuals who are looking for the best physician candidate to accompany them with the best distributed procedures that will produce a life changing experience.
There are an excessive large amount of educational offerings for students who would like to be prepared and rewarded through these careers demonstrated in the medical field. With the programs offered, there are descriptions listed for what the class is about. Includes a goal for what to gain from after taking the program. As well the typical class environment schedule and size amount of students. Every applicant is required to go through an application process and completed admissions prerequisites in order to move forward through the program. One of the programs I’ve searched about was called the Nurse-Midwifery Clinical Rotations Program. The program overview describes what a student would observe and experience of the delivery of patient care in a collaborative environment. In order to participate in the program, it is a requirement to be licensed in Minnesota of a registered nurse and enrolled in a master’s or doctorate-level program. The program is only limited to two nurse-midwifery students at a time to receive a comprehensive education experience close with a one-on-one. These clinical days includes eight to twelve hours a day shift in the labor and delivery unit. When both the nurse-midwifery course work and master’s or doctorate-level degree is completed, then it is eligible to take the national certifying exam offered by the American Midwifery Certification Board (Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences). Being a nurse-midwifery has been one of my ultimate decisions I would like to be apart of in my career.
The satisfaction for Mayo Clinic Hospital reflects an importance of quality contributed to every single patient needs with the structure of the well orientated physicians accompanied by each patient side and the environment display with the patients stay. A hospital like this does respect everyones self-determinism and the comfort level with your stay there. It isn’t all about just your visits with the physicians, there are so many opportunities to enhance your studies with your concerns from these professionals that has provided more information through the resource center. With great recognizable team work and helpful connections you can receive around you for support, a place like Mayo Clinic Hospital motivates you to be part of that community. I want to pursue my dream by becoming part of the Mayo Clinic Hospital society and inspire hope, also contribute to healthy well-being by providing the best care to every patient with the recognition of a successful nurse.

Why Bother?

Explore:
A problem that needs to be solved is government assistance. I've heard some acquaintances who purposely want kids, just want their own place and need help with paying for groceries, or even people who seek social security and say they have a mental problem when they really don't and just want government to cover their lives while everyone else goes to college and has to utilize every penny they got and contribute them part of their taxes to these types of people who personally don't need assistance. I feel as if we need to reinforce these rules so not more than half of our community utilizes these needs. My answer towards, "you don't think you could ever really do anything about it?" is no because I wouldn't know where to start and grasp everyones attention about this subject.
Explain: There were a few quotes that I've easily connected with Pollan's thoughts. One of them said, "There are so many stories we can tell ourselves to justify doing nothing, but perhaps the most insidious is that, whatever we do manage to do, it will be a little too late." Its hard to manage and justify something is going to happen right when it does but once it has approached you start thinking about how to accommodate the aspect but it is already too late and nothing we could do coming across some situations. Another quote I agreed with Pollan was, "for us to wait for legislation or technology to solve the problem of how we're living our lives suggests we're not really serious about changing--something our politicians cannot fail to notice. They will not move until we do. Indeed, to look to leaders and experts, to laws and money and grand schemes, to save us from our predicament represents precisely the sort of thinking--passive, delegated, dependent for solutions on specialists--that helped get us into this mess in the first place. This goes towards the question I answered for the first question from my imaginary companion. If I were to make the first move, possibly the higher classes of government will see how much it impacts our community.
Evaluate:
"Believing game"
Berry - the "cheap energy mind," is the mind that asks, "why bother?" because it is helpless to imagine-much-less attempt--different sort of life, one less divided, less reliant.
Pollen - Those who did change the way they live would acquire the moral standing to demand changes in behavior from others--from other people, other corporations, even other countries.
"Doubting game"
Berry - "We can no longer imagine anyone but an expert, or anything but a new technology or law, solving our problems."
Pollen - "What good is that virtue itself is quickly becoming a term of decision?"
Reflect:
Problem: Utilizing government assistance.
What should be done?
I think that that these regulations for whoever applies for government assistance should be reinforced. Especially for young-adults who purposely start their lives out early with becoming pregnant at an early age, get married and finding a living shouldn't be eligible to these opportunities and be more granted to the people who are permanently encountering disability or single parents raising children and such. I run into so many types of scenarios where people try convincing me to apply for food stamps so I can spend my own money on something better. Or another scenario is where my friend's best friend is throwing a over $10,000 wedding and is trying to conceive second child but they are living in a government assistance housing? So its like if you have the money for something else why not utilize that for priorities instead of having everyone else's taxes raised up which is unfair for the people who are working their bums off on the daily to move them through life and having to contribute a bit of our money to help these people who personally don't NEED government assistance which is extremely pathetic. If the more people who go in and take advantage of that opportunity the higher our taxes will be raised up. The government already has enough to worry about utilizing their money on with better quality things. By reinforcing these government assistance policies, I think their needs to a counselor involved that could accommodated and get thorough information of their background and such. Test and value you it if these individuals really does have a disability or a serious mental disorder through a physician. Last is individuals who only have a single income that has children to take care of.

The Life of a Licensed Practical Nurse
For those of you who don’t know me, my dream is to become a nurse. This all started when I used to volunteer at the Masonic Nursing homes in seventh grade and got the opportunity to assist in activities with the elderly residents. This experience really had me open my eyes and see how hard these residents get through their daily lives everyday. This is important for a nurse to be a good role model for their residents/patients that includes lots of patience because with something dramatic happening interferes with these residents/patients tends to degrade their life down. So giving these residents/patients with some encouragement and reassurance about how everything we do will hopefully heal their wellness for themselves. One last thing I would like to add about how being a nurse is the reward of making a difference in someone’s life is important. So as of right now I continued my love for elderly residents at a assisted living in Rosemount, and thought it would be a great idea to interview one of our LPN’s whose name is, Amy. Amy has experience in the medical field since she was 16 years old. During the interview with Amy we had various conversations about her background, why didn’t she choose to become a registered nurse, why this department of nursing and something she will never forget about as working as an LPN that I will be covering in this profile essay.
A background history about Amy’s life has been an adventure through this world of the medical field. Amy is from Theft River Falls, Minnesota. What brought her the idea to become a nurse was this class called, Medical Careers in high school. One day during class there was administrators from a nursing home came in to talk about their facility and solicited the students about becoming a certified nursing assistant and work with the elderly at the nursing home. Amy decided to go try that a route and ended up working there for three years until she went to college. Amy went to college in Moorhead, MN and got her LPN there. Her first job as a LPN was pediatric home health aide since she loved kids. This job involved a lot of one on one visiting at their homes. Pediatrics home care wasn’t always consistent either just because if these children who initially gets support through this department were to end up in the hospital, there would be no work involved during that time frame. She took care of children that had a tracheal, which is when a child’s throat was born with a closed throat, so these kids would go through surgery and get a tracheal put in that will help them breath, swallow, air secretion. Other dynamics Amy was involved in were pediatric home health aide job was kids who had brain injuries and vents. One of the most challenging things Amy had to face with pediatrics home health care was that every time she met a new client, you never know what their background is like with culture and family standards, or even types of dynamics you would be associating with.
Amy on the side from working with pediatrics home health care, volunteered to helped families with disability children to take them out and spend time with them when family needed time away from their child for a few hours or so. Parents that have children with disabilities can be a full time assist of cares throughout the rest of their life just with how severe their disorders can intervene into being a incompetent adult. These families appreciate anyone out there, especially Amy who will help alleviate some time for these busy parents and advocate trust to perform the best job that anyone or Amy can do with these unique children. All of these experiences listed that Amy encountered, eludes the compassion she has for all who enters in the support of these cares.
There were various reasons as to why Amy did not exceed the direction of becoming a nurse. Amy explained that when she was a student, she was not the brightest lightbulb there was to motivate herself through all of that schooling to become a registered nurse. Amy at least wanted to pursue a career in caring with helping people so ended up going to college to get her licensed practical nursing degree at Moorhead. Her intentions after receiving her LPN was to get married and start a family since she was pregnant at the time. By looking back at her past, Amy felt as if she grew up way too fast and wish she continued further into her schooling to become a licensed registered nurse. Amy’s thought between a licensed practical nurse and a registered nurse does not show an immensely large difference besides the fact that a registered nurse has a way more variety of departments to pursue in and make way more money. Amy has the ability and the knowledge to that degree of a registered nurse she feels, its just she isn’t licensed to be one.
Amy chose this elderly’s department of nursing for various reasons. Amy loves making a difference for someone who is declining or accompany a resident who usually doesn’t have family around as much, especially when the holidays come around she likes to pop her head around with the residents to wish them a happy holiday. Amy believes that every resident has a story to tell about their past history experiences. A lot of these stories included majority of how life has back in the day has changed a lot versus in today’s world. One of the residents Amy associated with talked about how horses significantly was a big impact for her transportation. Another part of why Amy misses working in a assisted living facility was that she loves interacting with geriatrics that helps evaluates residents’ strengths and encourage them to better their wellness. She has been living in Rosemount for five years and watched our assisted living started to build up since she lives so close near by and felt as if her heart needed to be there with everyone.
Since Amy has been through many created moments with these loving patients, she offered to share some experiences she will never forget as a LPN. There was a night she was working in high school as a CNA on the overnight shift where she was sitting at the nursing station in the memory care unit charting on the computer. This facility she worked at was pets acceptable and they had a house cat for the floor and its litter box sat right next to the nursing station. All of a sudden she began hearing a someone peeing inside of the cat litter box. As she turned over for the intention to peek at the cat it was a resident peeing inside the litter box. That was a night to remember she thought to herself, and had to escort him back to his room. This man had the mind of a cat where he would even lay on the wood floors in the lounge area and sleep on the ground by the piano.
One other story Amy empathized on was about this very ignorant and aggravated lady who always gave all of the workers a hard time to satisfy her needs, and threatened you on the regards about your “poor” work ethics to the administrations. So one day, Amy was trying to get all caught up with cleaning her residents rooms after breakfast that consisted of taking out trash and makings beds. Amy was a across the room where the lady resided in, with her family that came over to visit. With the door cracked open, Amy could hear faint talks of the lady’s addressed conversation with the family about how she felt about Amy doing a great job all the time. That showed Amy that it wasn’t herself who felt like she was doing a horrible job after towards the harassment and degrading that resident was approaching her with. That gave her a life lesson to not take any of rude things you can receive from these people offensively because yes they really do appreciate the help you are giving them and they would be no where if it wasn’t for any of us nurses. In the medical field you meet some wonderful and unique patients that comes across your life that can either make your day or roughs it all out.
Overall, from this interview from Amy really just motivated me even more to succeed to be called an official registered nurse one day. So many interesting stories that I am waiting to create memorable and be the life changing in a person in need. Amy believes that being a certified nurse is the best way to get your basic experience out of nursing and to see if its right for you and where you belong. Nursing isn’t for everyone. These resident/patients are living in a state where everyone has todo everything for them such as helping with getting up, taking a bath, going to the bathroom which makes them feel helpless and impatient because its not what they are used too and tend to get mad at themselves which ends up getting thrown on ourselves since we are working in this surrounded environment.
Amy had made me realize outside of the box about picturing myself that will put me in the worst mood ever. So when someone else is in that same situation, try to approach it differently by feeling for their sense of need and figuring the best way to help out. You can’t please someone all the time, but with an effort of help can be the chance to work. “We care to our given people, and try to make them feel special as much as possible since its the end of their life because that is what we are here for with the wish they wish for now,” Amy’s quote she addressed after the interview.

One other story Amy empathized on was about this very ignorant and aggravated lady who always gave all of the workers a hard time, hard to satisfy her needs, and threatened you on the regards about your “poor” work ethics to the administrations. So one day Amy was trying to get all caught up with cleaning these residents rooms after breakfast that consisted of taking out trash and makings beds. Amy was a across the room where the lady resided in and her family was over visiting. With the door opening, Amy could hear faint talks she was having with the family about how she felt about Amy doing a great job all the time. That showed Amy that it wasn’t herself who felt like she was doing a horrible job after all with all of the harassment and degrading that resident was approaching her with.
So many interesting stories that I can be involved in and be the life changing in a person in need. Amy believes that being a certified nurse a the best way to get your basic experience out of nursing and to see if its right for you and where you belong. Nursing isn’t for everyone. These resident/patients are living in a state where everyone has todo everything for them such as helping with getting up, taking a bath, going to the bathroom which makes them feel helpless and impatient because its not what they are used too and tend to get mad at themselves which ends up getting thrown on ourselves since we are always surrounding their environment. Amy had made me realize outside of the box about  when I am in pain I’m not always in the best mood ever. So when someone else is in that same situation, is to try to approach it differently by feeling for them and trying the best to help out. You cannot please someone all the time, but a little effort of help can work. “We care to our given people, and try to make them feel special as much as possible since its the end of their life because that is what we are here for with the wish they wish for now,” Amy’s quote she addressed after the interview.

Imagine That

It was the summer of senior year in high school and I was excited to get my senior pictures done.
My senior pictures were taken at the Rose Garden in Minneapolis. My photographer tried to me make my pictures look unique with having me angling my body at different directions, instead of smiling in every picture with a different background. My jaws just dropped at the end of the session with all the smiling I had todo for an hour and a half.
